Colubus Monkey
The Colobus Monkey — the name is a nod to the Greek word for "docked," referring to their reduced thumbs — is one of the most visually striking primates at Zoo Miami in Richmond West. Their bold black-and-white coats and long flowing mantles make them look almost theatrical against the green of their exhibit.
Colobus monkeys are leaf specialists, and their calm, deliberate movements reflect a lifestyle tuned to a low-energy, foliage-based diet. Watching them settle into the trees with quiet dignity is a calming counterpoint to some of the park's more boisterous animal encounters.
